Hello! I am a political scientist with an interest in Latin America, comparative public policy, and issues of social justice. I received my Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of Pittsburgh. Since then, I have taught at the University of Essex, London School of Economics and Political Science, and the University of South Florida. I am currently a faculty member in the School of Politics, Security, and International Affairs at the University of Central Florida.
My research interests include social movements and their impact on public policy. In particular, I am interested in the emergence of women, regional, and indigenous movements. As a result of my interests and work in these areas, I have been fortunate to be the recipient of a Fulbright Scholar grant (Bolivia, 2011-13) and a Fulbright-Hays grant (Argentina, 2022).
My teaching includes courses on comparative politics and comparative public policy. Among the most recent ones are: Global Drug Policy; Women, Gender, and Globalization, Comparative Public Policy, and Latino Politics. I am also an affiliate faculty member for the Florida Prison Education Project (FPEP), where I teach the general education course American Government.
In 2021, I partnered with Esmeralda Duarte and Jason Gregory to establish the Latin American/Latinx Film Festival at the University of Central Florida. This festival was made possible with the support of Pragda, SPAIN arts & culture, and the Secretary of State for Culture of Spain as well as from the University of Central Florida. The festival has also been held in the fall of 2022 and in the fall of 2023. We hope it will be an annual event. We’ll keep you posted!
